SINGAPORE: Ms Raeesah Khan, a former Workers’ Party Member of Parliament, took the stand on the first day of the trial of party chief Pritam Singh. He is accused of lying to a parliamentary committee over his handling of a lie that Ms Khan herself told in parliament in 2021.
On Monday (Oct 14), prosecutors laid out their case against Singh, who is also the Leader of the Opposition. They argued that he guided Ms Khan to maintain her lie in parliament. She claimed that she had once accompanied a rape victim to make a police report.
Singh, 48, is believed to the first Member of Parliament to face these particular charges under the Parliament (Privileges, Immunities and Powers) Act.
