SINGAPORE: A 50-year-old man will be charged in court on Wednesday (Oct 23) with the murder of a 41-year-old man who was found lying unconscious at a Housing and Development Board (HDB) void deck in Clementi on Monday.

The police and the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) were alerted to the incident at Block 311B Clementi Avenue 4 at about 5pm on Monday.

The 50-year-old man was arrested at the scene. The victim was taken unconscious to hospital, where he died.

Both parties are known to each other, according to preliminary investigations by the police.

Amid speculation about the identities of the two men, the People’s Association (PA) on Tuesday shot down reports that the suspect was serving in the grassroots.

“The alleged suspect is not a member of any PA grassroots organisation,” the PA said following a report in the Straits Times that both the suspect and victim were linked to grassroots activities of the Trivelis Residents’ Network.

The victim was, however, a grassroots volunteer.

“We further urge members of the public not to forward or share graphic footage or images of the incident. This only intensifies the pain felt by the family and the community,” the PA said.
