The world reeling is from US President Donald Trump’s tariff blitz. He has vowed payback for years of what he called “unfair trade practices”. A baseline levy of 10% on all imports has been announced, while higher reciprocal rates will apply to countries that have a significant trade deficit with the US. China now faces a reciprocal rate of 34%, on top of an existing 20% tariff. Allies such as the European Union, Japan and India have also faced a rude awakening.
