Cardinals of the Catholic Church are gathering in Vatican City ahead of the funeral of Pope Francis this weekend. Prayer events are scheduled daily at St Peter’s Basilica, with people streaming in to pay their last respects to the late pontiff. His funeral on Saturday (Apr 23) will mark the beginning of an ancient tradition of holding nine days of mourning. A date has yet to be set for the conclave – a secret meeting of cardinals aged under 80 – to elect a new pope. John Bevir reports from Vatican City.
