AUKUS defence ministers — Australia’s Richard Marles, the UK’s John Healey and their US counterpart Lloyd Austin — are holding their first trilateral meeting outside of the US. The trio have gathered in London. The UK and Australia have announced plans to work towards a first-of-its kind defence treaty. Under the AUKUS agreement signed in 2021, the US and UK agreed to provide Australia with nuclear-powered submarines and help it ramp up its defence capabilities against growing security threats in the Indo-Pacific.
