President Donald Trump said the US is in talks with China on tariffs, and a deal could be done “over the next three or four weeks”. Mr Trump would not say whether he has spoken directly with Chinese President Xi Jinping, but insisted that China has been in touch since tariffs were imposed. According to reports, both sides are in contact, but not at the level needed to strike a deal. Ambassador Kurt Tong, managing partner at business consultancy The Asia Group, shared more about a potential end to the tit-for-tat tariff hikes between the two superpowers. Ambassador Tong has held many senior US State Department positions, and is a specialist in diplomacy and economic affairs in East Asia.
