Retaliatory tariffs against the US have come swiftly from Mexico and Canada, but China has chosen a different path by making its point at the World Trade Organization. Beijing-based analyst David Daokui Li said the WTO’s capacity to resolve disputes might have diminished in recent years, but China’s lawsuit buys it time to negotiate. Meanwhile, Mr Stephen Olson, a visiting fellow at the ISEAS-Yusof Ishak Institute, shared more about the potential impact of the WTO lawsuit.
