Getty ImagesMiss Piggy is set to finally get her solo movie moment, with Jennifer Lawrence and Emma Stone on board for the new project.
Lawrence revealed she will co-produce the film, centered on the diva puppet from The Muppets franchise, alongside close friend Stone.
Speaking on the Las Culturistas podcast, she said: “I don’t know if I can announce this but I’m just gonna. Emma Stone and I are producing a Miss Piggy movie”.
She said US actor and playwright Cole Escola, who starred in the award-winning Broadway comedy Oh, Mary!, was writing the script.
Getty ImagesLawrence said she thinks the Miss Piggy film could be the first time she co-stars with Stone.
“It’s like really dark that we haven’t done a movie together,” she added.
Lawrence shared more details about the project during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday evening.
She said she’d discussed the idea with a friend during the pandemic lockdown and how it would be “so funny” if Miss Piggy was cancelled.
The actress stressed that was “not the plot necessarily” but it “got the wheels turning” about starring role for the character, hailing her as a “feminist icon”.
Lawrence also revealed that Stone was the “Muppet head” out of the two, while she branded herself as the “ideas guy”.
Getty ImagesMiss Piggy started off as a background character on The Muppet Show back in the mid-1970s.
But she soon began to steal the limelight on the TV series with her sassy personality and glamorous looks.
She is also known for her on-and-off-again relationship with The Muppet’s lead character, Kermit the Frog, and has appeared alongside him in several films.
The Muppet Show, which celebrates its 50th anniversary next year, is due to air a one-off special featuring US pop star Sabrina Carpenter.
Disney announced the return of fan-favourite characters “to the Muppet Theatre to put on a variety show filled with music, comedy, and plenty of chaos”.
