Escalating tensions in the Middle East have dominated discussions at the UN General Assembly as the high-level debate session enters its final day. On Friday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s controversial speech sparked a mass walkout. He emphasised that Israel will fight to “total victory” in Gaza and described the UN as a “contemptuous farce”. Delegates from Indonesia and Malaysia were among those who walked out. During her address, Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi emphasised the importance of recognising Palestinian sovereignty and stressed that it can put political pressure on Israel to end its “atrocities”. Mitch McCann reports from New York.
