The Chinese influencer, who was fined 125,000 yuan (S$24,313) for roasting and eating a great white shark on live stream, has apologised for her actions.

The Sichuan-based vlogger, popularly known by her online pseudonym, Tizi, filmed the original video in Jul. 2022, and was subsequently fined in January this year for violating China’s Wild Animal Conservation Law.

In her latest post on Kuaishou, a video-sharing platform, one week ago, Tizi said that she owed everyone an apology.

    Reflected on her actions

She says she had some time to reflect deeply on her actions and for the past eight months, she has been visiting libraries and aquariums.

“I want to make up for my lack of knowledge, because as a content creator, I must convey appropriate messages,” Tizi says.

She also attributes her mistake to a lack of understanding of the marine world.

The video pans to a scene of her sitting in the aisle of a library flipping through a book on marine animals.

She hopes to educate the public in this area so that no one will commit similar crimes due to ignorance.

After that, she films from an aquarium in the city of Chengdu.

As she tours the exhibits, she introduces various protected marine animals, including endangered sea turtles, penguins, beluga whales and Chinese sturgeons.

Along the way, she tells the viewers about some of the animals’ characteristics, as well as which tier of protected animals they belong to in China.

    Formal apology

At the end of the video, Tizi offers a formal apology for her mistake.

She admits she has been quite badly affected by the comments on her videos, but will reflect on the criticism and seek to better herself.

She concludes by saying, “I know that this video will probably attract more criticism, but I accept it because I know what I have done is wrong.”
