A 34-year-old Singaporean man was sentenced to three weeks’ jail for stealing some toys from Waterway Point’s Toys “R” Us, as well as eight tins of milk powder from the mall’s NTUC FairPrice.
According to charge sheets seen by Mothership, Joshua Chen Yixian committed the offences on the night of Jun. 22, 2022.
Stole seven toys and eight tins of milk powder in one night
At around 8pm that day, Chen visited Waterway Point’s Toys “R” Us store and stole seven toys worth S$213.94.
The toys are:
- One box of Batman Lego (S$99.99)
- One set of 3C4G Celestial Nail Polish (S$34.99)
- One Thomas & Friends wood toy (S$34.99)
- One float a ball toy (S$3.99)
- One Top Tots Count-n-Learn remote toy (S$19.99)
- Two Banzai blast-n-bop battle splasher toys (S$19.99)
After that, at about 9:14pm, Chen went to the mall’s NTUC FairPrice supermarket and stole eight 900g tins of Enfagrow Pro A+ Stage 3 milk powder worth a total value of S$422.40.
Chen pleaded guilty to two theft charges.
Another charge, in which he had in his possession another six tins of milk powder that were suspected to have been stolen, were taken into consideration in his sentencing.
Chen will begin his jail sentence on Feb. 24, 2023.
Wanted to sell the milk powder on Carousell
According to CNA, Chen said he had wanted to sell the milk powder on Carousell to earn some profit.
He also claimed that he stole the toys for his children.
As reported by CNA, Chen’s lawyer described the accused as a hardworking man with a “difficult and lonely childhood” that led him to develop “certain perspectives of his duties as a married man”.
The judge told Chen to learn from his mistakes and to not commit any other offence.
He also said he hoped this would be Chen’s first and last offence.
