Senior US officials are set to meet their Israeli counterparts today, in a renewed push to secure ceasefires for Lebanon and Gaza wars. Washington is reportedly working on a 60-day truce between Israel and Hezbollah. Lebanese caretaker prime minister Najib Mikati has expressed optimism for a potential ceasefire in the “next few hours or days”. However, a senior Hamas official said the group rejects any proposal for a temporary halt in fighting in Gaza and insists on a permanent end to the war. Sarah Coates reports from Tel Aviv.
