Timor-Leste has a special relationship with the world’s second-biggest economy, China – one of the first countries to recognise its independence and establish diplomatic relations with it. In an exclusive interview with CNA in late 2024, Timor-Leste president José Ramos-Horta spoke of his country’s ties with China, Sino-US relations, as well as US president-elect Donald Trump.
