Phil Foden
It was Foden to the rescue at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday afternoon as the Englishman scored twice to ensure Manchester City’s blushes were spared against newly promoted Leeds United.
Foden netted after just 59 seconds – City’s earliest home goal in the Premier League in over six years – and again in the 91st minute, his first stoppage time winning goal in the competition.
It meant Foden became only the fourth player in Premier League history to score in both the opening minute and the 90th minute or later in the same game, after Marouane Chamakh (2010 vs Wolves), Jesus Navas (2013 vs Spurs) and Diego Costa (2014 vs Everton).
It was also Foden’s third brace in the league in 2025 with only Erling Haaland (obviously – 6 times) scoring multiple times in more English top-flight games this calendar year.
Foden remains a name Thomas Tuchel simply cannot forget come the flight to north America this summer.
Malick Thiaw (Newcastle)
It was also blink and you’ll miss it at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, with Newcastle’s Malick Thiaw netting the quickest goal of the Premier League season after just 52 seconds.
Newcastle put form to bed, or more specifically away form, by becoming the first team to net four times away to a David Moyes-led Everton side in the Premier League since November 2010 (1-4 vs WBA), with Thiaw netting again in the second half.
The German defender – who also won six of his seven aerial duels, recorded the joint-second most clearances (5) and completed the second most passes (58) of any Magpie in the win – became only the fourth defender to score a brace for Newcastle away from home in the Premier League after Philippe Albert (1996 vs Man City), Florian Lejeune (2020 vs Everton) and Fabian Schär (2024 vs Aston Villa).
Thiaw is looking to be a shrewd signing by Newcastle, with Dan Burn (1063) the only defender to play more minutes than him for the club so far this season in the league (813).
Enzo Le Fee (Sunderland)
Enzo Le Fee spearheaded Sunderland’s first ever win from two goals down in the Premier League this weekend, netting their first goal from the penalty spot before assisting Brian Brobbey’s winner in the second half from a corner.
Including last season’s Championship playoffs the Frenchman has the joint-most assists (5) and has created the most chances (42) of any Sunderland player in the league since he moved to the North East in January.
Le Fée also created the most chances of any Black Cat during the dramatic 3-2 victory over Bournemouth (3) and won possession in the final third the most times of any player (4).
Régis Le Bris hasn’t looked back since he reunited with Le Fée, who also played under him at Lorient, and the pair are currently part of one of the best starts to a Premier League season by a newly promoted side this century.
Indeed, since 2000-01, Wigan Athletic in 2005-06 (25) are the only promoted side to have picked up more points 13 matches into a campaign than Sunderland’s 22 this term.
Things are certainly heading the right way for Sunderland and Le Fée.
