US President Donald Trump has reiterated his plan to take over Gaza, after the White House and Secretary of State Marco Rubio tried to allay concerns about possible American military intervention in the besieged enclave. Mr Trump’s initial comments on taking over Gaza had sparked international condemnation. On his social media platform Truth Social, the American leader said Israel will turn over Gaza to the US at the end of fighting. He added that Washington will then begin construction of what will be “one of the greatest and most spectacular developments of its kind”. Giles Gibson reports from Tel Aviv.
