The European Commission says it is proposing a range countermeasures against the US, should trade talks fail. It will target around US$107 billion worth of American goods, including US cars and aircraft. The world’s largest two-way trade partnership is also deeply enmeshed on security and investment. Perhaps more than most, the EU is finding tariffs from Washington hard to swallow.
