This means that your favourite ultra-processed foods (UPFs) like packed junk food, sugar-loaded drinks, mass-produced bread, fruit yoghurt, sugar-filled breakfast cereals, and meat alternatives can cause you to age faster.

As per Moneycontrol, biological age is influenced by genetics and lifestyle habits such as diet and exercise.

The study, conducted on Italians, revealed that middle-aged and elderly participants who got more than 14% of their daily calories from UPFs seemed to be biologically older than their chronological age.

For this report, 22,500 study participants had to fill out a food questionnaire and measure 36 biomarkers in their blood to calculate their biological age.

The study further pointed out that UPFs are often wrapped in plastic packaging, which makes it even worse for your health.

Another study conducted by the University of California found that added sugar accelerates biological ageing. This also holds for cases when sugar is part of a healthy diet.
