Home-cooked meals have gotten more expensive since October 2024 as prices of vegetables have surged, according to a recent report by Crisil.

CRISIL Roti Rice Rate (RRR) report was published on November 7, 2024. It highlighted how the costs have jumped higher for both homemade vegetarian and non-vegetarian thalis.

In comparison to October 2023, the cost of a vegetarian thali has increased by 20 per cent in October 2024. The cost of buying vegetables accounts for 40 per cent of the overall thali's actual price.

For a non-vegetarian meal, the price has surged by 5 per cent. Vegetable prices include 22 per cent of this thali.

A comparison between October 2023 and 2024 showed that onion and potato costs grew by 46 per cent and 51 per cent respectively in the last month.

Heavy rainfall damaged tomato cultivation in different states. This led to a jump in prices by more than twice its cost in October 2023.
