SINGAPORE: A woman was charged on Wednesday (Jul 9) after allegedly committing sexual offences against a boy who was her primary school student and stalking him.
The court imposed an order preventing the 34-year-old Singaporean woman and the boy from being identified. Court records showed that the “accused was the victim’s primary school teacher”.
She faces four charges of causing sexual penetration of a minor, performing an indecent act with a child, sexual grooming and stalking.
Court documents stated that she hugged the boy, kissed him, sat on his lap and ground her body against him in a car at a multi-storey car park between Feb 20, 2019 and Oct 8, 2019.
She is also accused of performing a sex act on the boy at a multi-storey car park between November 2019 and December 2019 when he was 14 years old.
She allegedly met the boy on at least two occasions in 2019 at a multi-storey car park, intending to “do an indecent act” with him.
There was a gap of a few years until the woman’s next alleged offence, which occurred between October 2023 and March 2024, court documents showed. During this period, she is accused of stalking the boy by sending at least 18 unwanted emails to him.
This was despite the boy telling her to stop communicating with him.
She allegedly caused harassment, alarm and distress to the boy.
The woman did not make any indication on Wednesday of how she would plead. The case was adjourned for a further mention in August.
In response to queries from CNA, the Ministry of Education (MOE) said the accused was suspended from March 2024 and is no longer teaching in any school.
“MOE takes a serious view of staff misconduct and will not hesitate to take disciplinary action against those who fail to adhere to our standards of conduct and discipline, including dismissal from service. MOE will follow up with disciplinary proceedings after the court case has concluded.”
