Zheng Geping turns 60 on May 27 but it seems there will be no singing of birthday songs this year.

In an interview with 8world, the veteran actor said he plans to be low-key about the big day and has even told relatives and friends that they are not allowed to celebrate his birthday this year.

“I have made it clear to them that I don’t want any birthday surprises, otherwise I would fall out (with them),” he said.

According to traditional Chinese beliefs, celebrating milestone birthdays is a no-no.

To those who believe that, turning 60 also marks “the end of life” and celebrating it may bring bad luck.

For Geping, he said multiple numerology masters have reminded him of the taboo should there be any celebration this year.

However, he also explained that not having any celebrations is not due to religious or superstitious factors but because he never had the habit.

His celebrations in previous years were always initiated by others and Geping is grateful to the many who remember this birthday.

Though the man is insistent on not marking the big 60 in any way, he revealed that a second fitness book is in the works.

The hunkle’s first book, Star Fitness, was published in 2013 more than a decade ago.
