Tens of thousands of people have started bidding their final goodbyes to Pope Francis, as he lies in state at Saint Peter’s Basilica. The pope’s open wooden coffin was carried by the Swiss Guard earlier in a procession from Casa Santa Marta, where the pontiff lived and died. Pope Francis’ funeral will take place on Saturday at Saint Peter’s Square. The Vatican is expecting the outdoor event to draw in hundreds of thousands of people. World leaders, including those from the US, France, Ukraine, the European Commission and the late pope’s home nation of Argentina, have confirmed their attendance. John Bevir reports from Rome.
