The US and Ukraine have signed a crucial deal that grants Washington access to Kyiv’s rare earths. This marks a breakthrough in relations, which have come under tremendous pressure following a tense meeting between their leaders in February. Ukraine’s allies have long eyed its mineral riches, as it holds deposits of 22 out of the 34 minerals considered critical by the EU. Kyiv estimates it controls about 5% of the world’s critical raw materials. Professor of International Politics Scott Lucas from University College Dublin discussed more about the landmark agreement.
