Authorities in Spain and Portugal are scrambling to restore electricity to tens of millions of residents after widespread power cut brought large swathes of both countries to a standstill on Monday (Apr 28). Reports say electricity supply is being restored in some regions, though the disruption continues to persist across the Iberian Peninsula. This latest blackout is Europe’s largest in more than a decade. In 2003, some 56 million people in Italy and Switzerland lost power for up to 12 hours. Ross Cullen reports.
