A man with a sword was arrested in Hainault, east of London after several people were attacked and injured, the Metropolitan Police said on Tuesday (Apr 30).

The force said it was called just before 7am (6am GMT) after a vehicle drove into a house and reports that “people have been stabbed”.

“At this time we understand the suspect went on to attack other members of the public and two police officers,” a statement read.

“We are awaiting an update on the condition of those injured.”

The Met, which polices an area of 1,605 sq km of Greater London, said a 36-year-old man was arrested at the scene.

Deputy Assistant Commissioner Ade Adelekan said: “This incident does not appear to be terror-related.”

“This must have been a terrifying incident for those concerned,” he said.

“I know the wider community will be feeling shock and alarm. People will want to know what has happened and we will provide more information as soon as we can.”

He added that police do not believe there is a threat to the wider community and that they are not looking for more suspects.

“I am being regularly updated about the incident at Hainault Station this morning,” Britain’s interior minister James Cleverly said on X. “My thoughts are with those who have been affected.”
