The actress, who said she and her family were among the first batch of Singaporeans to move into HDB flats, recalled how everything happened in her estate.

“We were the first batch, so there weren’t many people living in the area. There were only two to three households on the sixth floor and one or two on the seventh, but there was practically no one living on the higher floors,” she recounted.

Xiang Yun said there was a man who would occasionally appear when she and her three sisters played around the block.

“One time, he came and spoke to me, and asked me to follow him,” she said.

The guy then took Xiang Yun, who was still too young to sense danger, to a stairwell on the upper floors.

He told the actress to sit down and chat with him, but ended up pulling her to sit on his lap.

“He then ‘bit’ my lips. He was actually kissing me but I didn’t know. I was so scared that I cried and kept struggling,” said Xiang Yun.

Luckily, a neighbour walked up the staircase at that time. It startled the predator, who fled right away.

The incident was so mortifying for Xiang Yun, she would hide under the table and cry for weeks.

A similar incident happened again, in public, after Xiang Yun became an actress.

“I was attending a sponsored event when a stranger suddenly grabbed my butt before disappearing into the crowd. How terrible!” she said.

“It’s why I get very mad whenever I hear such things happening to other people. We really can’t let these sexual predators get away so easily!”
